BAPE × adidas Revisit 2000s Basketball Culture in Purple Camo

A collaboration collection inspired by 2000s basketball culture

BAPE (A BATHING APE®) and adidas will release a new collaboration collection inspired by basketball culture from the late 1990s to the early 2000s on November 7, 2026.

The collection reinterprets the bold graphics, colors and sportswear silhouettes that appeared on basketball courts and in street fashion at the time. It spans metallic silver camo basketball shoes, purple camo apparel, a varsity jacket and Baby Milo accessories.

The design element running through this collaboration is BAPE’s purple COLOR CAMO, which the brand has used since the early 2000s.

The camouflage pattern, layered in purple, pink and deep navy, appears across shark hoodies, track pants, sneakers and accessories. It is paired with adidas’ 3-Stripes and Trefoil logo, as well as design elements drawn from basketball uniforms.

The relationship between basketball and streetwear comes through not only in the shapes of the pieces but also in how the graphics are placed.

Embroidery and patches recalling sports-team varsity jackets, oversized lettering across the fronts of uniforms and the side stripes of tracksuits meet BAPE’s camouflage, STA logo and shark graphics, bringing the two brands’ designs together.

Jalen Williams of the NBA’s Oklahoma City Thunder appears in the campaign, reflecting the collaboration’s focus on style both on and off the basketball court.

Basketball shoes in metallic silver and purple camo

The centerpiece of the collection, the Crazy Energy+, applies BAPE’s metallic COLOR CAMO SILVER pattern to an adidas Basketball performance shoe. Silver and gray camo follows the shoe’s streamlined upper, while a knit cover bearing “WGM (World Gone Mad)” lettering sits over the laces.

The camouflage covering the shoe’s surface and the central knit cover express BAPE’s graphics in different ways. By concealing the laces, the knit cover gives the front a different look from that of a conventional basketball shoe. Two sets of interchangeable laces are also included to vary the design.

The Adizero Goukana, launching alongside it, takes a contrasting approach to materials and color compared with the Crazy Energy+.

It layers high-gloss Italian patent leather over purple camo mesh and adds metallic gold accents, asymmetrical 3-Stripes, STA details and WGM lace ornaments. The design is said to draw inspiration from sunsets and culture on the U.S. West Coast.

Unlike the metallic silver camo-focused Crazy Energy+, the Goukana uses the contrast between purple and gold, along with the differing textures of mesh and patent leather, to create a more layered design.

While both shoes share a camouflage motif, Crazy Energy+ extends the pattern along the shape of the basketball shoe, while Goukana layers different materials to bring out contrasts in color and texture.

BAPE graphics on a varsity jacket and reversible tracksuit

The centerpiece of the apparel lineup is a black varsity jacket.

Purple lettering, star graphics and gold studs stand out against the black background, while the front combines the adidas Trefoil logo, BAPE’s Ape Head and an “AB” patch.

The sleeves feature adidas lettering and star-shaped embellishments, while large “WORLD GONE MAD” chenille embroidery fills the back.

The jacket combines a traditional varsity silhouette with BAPE graphics. It retains classic details such as a ribbed collar and cuffs and snap buttons, while varied patches and lettering across the front, sleeves and back evoke the decorative style of early-2000s streetwear.

The reversible mesh Shark Hoodie and Adibreak track pants make the most direct use of purple camo.

The hoodie combines purple camo mesh with adidas’ 3-Stripes, places a Shark Face in the same color family on the outside of the hood, and features an STA pattern on the inside.

The Adibreak track pants are also reversible, so both pieces can be worn inside out to switch between two designs.

By bringing purple camouflage and the STA pattern together in one garment, the pieces draw on both BAPE’s signature graphics and adidas’ tracksuit design.

Graphic pieces combining basketball uniforms and Baby Milo

The warm-up top pairs a basketball-uniform-inspired V-neck with black mesh and features large “WORLD GONE MAD” lettering across the front.

Purple camo appears on the sides and select details, contrasting with the lettering against the black background and turning the silhouette of a basketball warm-up top into streetwear.

The white Baby Milo T-shirt combines a character sitting on a basketball with a purple logo. Rather than using the camouflage repeated across the other apparel, it focuses on the character graphic itself to express the basketball theme.

The accessories include a reversible beanie combining purple camo knit with a white STA logo, and a round shoulder bag shaped like a basketball with Baby Milo’s face.

The shoulder bag, in particular, retains the basketball’s round shape while rendering the character’s distinctive eyes and mouth in three dimensions, offering another take on the basketball theme seen throughout the apparel and sneakers.

The direction of the collection is clear: while the collaboration uses contrasting colors and materials—including silver and purple camo, chenille embroidery and gold studs, and mesh and patent leather—BAPE’s graphics tie the range together. It applies design elements BAPE has developed since the early 2000s to sportswear forms such as basketball shoes, uniforms and varsity jackets.
